How we calculate this

We compile prices from operator websites, our own outreach to homes across Malaysia, and published references from AgeCOPE (the Aged Care Operators Association of Malaysia). We group the 11 states into three pricing tiers because pricing varies more by tier than by individual state, and grouping gives a stable estimate even where disclosed pricing is thin.

  • Tier 1 — KL, Selangor, Penang. Largest market; highest disclosed prices.
  • Tier 2 — Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perak. Mid-tier metro and growing operator base.
  • Tier 3 — Pahang, Kedah, Sarawak, Sabah. Lower density; fewer disclosed prices, treat estimates as indicative.

Add-ons (diapers, milk feeds, physiotherapy) are surfaced separately rather than blended into the base range, because operators generally quote a base fee that excludes consumables. Most families budget another RM 300–1,500/month on top of the base, depending on needs.

FX rates (SGD, USD) are fetched at build time from the European Central Bank via frankfurter.app, refreshed on each deploy. Shown for reference only.

Common questions

How much does a nursing home cost in Malaysia?
Most nursing homes charge RM 2,500–6,500/month for shared rooms and RM 4,500–9,500/month for single rooms. Memory care and bed-bound nursing sit at the higher end. KL/Selangor/Penang typically run 20–40% above other states.
Assisted living vs nursing care — what's the cost difference?
Nursing care is typically 15–25% more expensive than assisted living for the same room type, because of higher staffing ratios and clinical supervision. The gap widens when tube feeding, wound care, or oxygen are needed.
Are diapers and medical supplies included?
Usually not. Most operators quote a base monthly fee. Expect to add RM 250–450/month for diapers, RM 300–600/month for milk feeds, and RM 600–1,200/month for regular physiotherapy.
How accurate is the estimator?
It's a research-based range, not an exact quote. Actual quotes vary by operator, current availability, and care level after on-site assessment. Use it for budgeting; get matched for current rates.
I'm in Singapore — can I use my CPF or insurance?
CPF cannot be used for cross-border senior care payments. ElderShield/CareShield Life payouts can be received in Singapore and used freely. Some private LTC insurance policies cover overseas care — check the policy wording. See our guide for Singapore families.
