What the home told us directly (22 August 2026)

We wrote to Rumah Sejahtera Rembau on behalf of a family asking about a destitute elderly woman with no relatives and no income. They answered fully within a day, and what they told us applies well beyond that one case.

⭐ RM400 a month - and how someone with nothing affords it

The home asks residents to contribute RM400 a month for food and accommodation.

That is not paid out of thin air. Most residents receive a JKM allowance of RM600 a month, paid into the resident’s own account. RM400 goes to the home and the resident keeps RM200 for personal things - pampers, toiletries.

So the order matters: apply for the JKM allowance first, then approach the home. Without the allowance the RM400 is out of reach; with it, a place here is genuinely affordable to someone with no income at all. Applications go through the district Welfare Office (Pejabat Kebajikan Masyarakat Daerah); Talian Kasih 15999 will point you to the right one.

Women only, about 33 residents

Rembau houses around 33 residents, all women, of various races. A man cannot be placed here.

⛔ FULL as at 22 August 2026

They told us plainly that they had no places at that date. Ask again before travelling.

Part of a national network most families have never heard of

Rembau runs under Majlis Pusat Kebajikan SeMalaysia (MPKSM), which operates around 63 homes across Peninsular Malaysia under the name Rumah Sejahtera, a network that began in 1951. These are welfare homes rather than commercial care centres, and only some of them appear on the JKM licensed-centre register, which is why they are so hard to find. Standards vary between homes in the network - visit before committing to any of them.

A note on the care level

We previously listed this home as a nursing home. It is not one, and the home has never described itself that way - it is a residential welfare home. Corrected 23 August 2026. If a resident needs nursing-level care, ask the home directly what they can and cannot manage.

How we determined this licensing status

JKM-registered Pusat Jagaan Warga Emas. Cert: N/ PJB WT 14/2020. Validity: 04.12.2025 - 03.12.2030. Type: NGO.

Licensing status can change — licences expire, transfer to new operators, or get renewed under a different legal entity. We cross-reference public sources to be as accurate as possible, but always ask to see the physical certificate during your tour. For JKM, ask for the Perakuan Pendaftaran Pusat Jagaan. For MOH, ask for the CKAPS approval letter.

Operators: email your certificate to hello@seniorlivingmalaysia.org and we will upgrade this listing to a Verified ✓ badge showing the certificate date. While you're at it — one line on cultural fit (halal kitchen, surau, Mandarin-speaking staff, dietary accommodations) helps the families who specifically search for that.
